In honor of my upcoming single “I’m Done” and in celebration of Halloween season, I thought I’d reflect upon what a gift it is to be scared at times.
It was 2 am on a Tuesday and I quietly tiptoed through the apartment, packing only the essentials. I had wanted to move to Nashville for a while, and my boyfriend was asleep in the next room. If he woke up, my whole plan would be ruined. By 3 am, my car was packed and I was on the road to a place 700 miles away. 12 hours or so later I would move in with a roommate I met on Craigslist, whom I had only talked to over the phone a few times.
So many things were scary about what I was attempting, but the fear of staying complacent was exponentially greater. At the other end of my journey was the freedom I’d been needing for a long time, but that didn’t lessen the anxiety that came from making such a drastic change. And let’s face it, change is scary sometimes. But it brings us to a place of growth, and when we grow, the world around grows a little too.
Sometimes I have to ask myself, am I more of afraid of dying or actually living?
